Bio
Haden Jex is an American indie singer/songwriter with modern alternative and folk influences. Music was a defining aspect of his childhood, and his close-knit family nurtured his affinity for the art form from an early age. He draws inspiration from a variety of experiences, including a number of family road trips that spanned thirty-three of the United States. His songwriting often reflects this exposure to the dynamic terrain of the U.S. as well as its accompanying communities and landscapes. Haden is influenced to a large degree by the work of Gregory Alan Isakov, The Lumineers, and the iconic Bob Dylan. He also identifies heavily with the authenticity of songwriters such as Bon Iver and British songwriter Jake Bugg.
While Haden spent much of his adolescence involved in theater and drama studies, he felt drawn to music and the art of songwriting. Upon the discovery of a collection of original work created by his late Uncle Justin Jex, Haden began delving more into the creative process of expression through music, and his uncle’s work became a mainstay in Haden’s teenage years. Following Justin Jex’s passing at the age of 30, Haden continued to study his uncle’s work, and he was intrigued by the impact it had on him. Haden felt a sense of compassion for his strife, and does not shy away from the more in-depth topics of injustice, resilience, and redemption in his own writing. His uncle’s musical influence continues to shape the artist Haden is today.
His family’s move from Idaho to Florida in 2015 was a renewing event for him. The relocation to Tampa Bay positioned him for growth in a youthful and thriving music scene at a time when his own artistry was proving to evolve rapidly.
Haden holds a Degree in Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) with an emphasis in composition from St. Petersburg College and can be found playing local venues in the Central West area of Florida.
Plans to record his first EP are also in development.
